Mission

Girls Like You mission is to transform the lives of young girls who are facing life challenges by providing a community mentorship program and other essential services needed to increase positive fundamental life skills.

The Process

Each girl will be assigned a mentor within 2-3 days of being accepted in the program. The mentee will be contacted within 7 days of being assigned to mentor. A meeting will be scheduled to start phase 1, The Planting . This process is in place to build and cement a bond between the mentor and mentee.

After the phase 1 has been completed, mentees will enter into phase 2, The Rooting. In this phase, there will be weekly scheduled check in calls with a mentor. Monthly, there will be scheduled Sister Time where mentor and mentee meet in-person for a one-on-one. A typical meeting features a guided conversation and activity. Topics might include school, relationships, family, friends, careers, health and a myriad of other topics to promote mentee’s focus and motivation.

In addition to the meetings mentioned above, every quarter all mentors and mentees will partake in Extended Family Time. This meeting consists of everyone coming together for fun and laughter; parents are welcome to attend.

Finally, phase 3, The Blossoming, the girls have grown into their full potential within the program and have succeeded in overcoming their behavior challenges. At this point an Exit Plan will be prepared, which will include guidance for their future journey. Following, a ceremony is held to acknowledge the accomplishments.

Mentee’s progress is monitored through monthly progress reports and annual reviews. The necessary adjustments are made according to the mentee’s needs.
